CE on the Sea 2009

The School of Optometry is pleased to announce its 3rd CE on the Sea continuing education cruise! Join us on one of Celebrity Cruise Lines newest ships, the Eclipse from January 8th – 15th, 2011 for a week of sun, fun, relaxation and learning. The adventure begins in Miami. We then sail the Caribbean to ports in the Cayman Islands, Mexico and Honduras before returning to Miami.

Escape the post-holiday blahs! Combine learning and leisure while sailing the Caribbean with your colleagues, classmates and friends! Update your TPA knowledge with this 12-hour evidence and case-based program highlighting the latest developments in the diagnosis and management of ocular disease. Lectures are held on the days we are at sea, leaving days in port completely free to enjoy the many shore excursions, or the shopping, or just relax on the ship or on shore.

The UW faculty and staff members who will accompany you look forward to welcoming you and to enjoying our time together in the warm waters of the Caribbean. Time to break out that wild floral shirt and leave winter behind! Join us.

Ports of Call

Cruise map: Ft. Lauderdale, Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, and back to Ft. Lauderdale.

You are also encouraged to “Google” the ports of call as well as check out the various excursions.

From the Celebrity Cruises web site:

Port of departure: Miami, Florida Jan 08 | Jan 15

“From the chic elite of South Beach to the sparkling beaches and nightlife that never sleeps, if you're looking for excitement, Miami is sure to deliver. It's also a city rich in heritage and diversity, so if your pace is a little more relaxed, you'll have lots of options to choose from.”

George Town, Grand Cayman Jan 10

“Once a hot spot and hideout for some of the most notorious pirates ever, Grand Cayman now hosts a much more refined clientele. Stingray City, named as one of the most rewarding experiences in the undersea world by National Geographic, allows swimmers to mingle with stingrays. Soft white-sand beaches and sensational duty-free shopping abound on this island of treasures.”

Cozumel, Mexico Jan 11

“Cozumel has been called the gem of the Mexican Caribbean. The island is located approximately twelve miles off the southern coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, just across from Playa del Carmen. The waters and coral reefs off Cozumel are world-renowned as a diving destination.”

Puerto Costa Maya, Mexico Jan 12

“In this port city just to the south of Cancun and Cozumel, you'll find a variety of shore excursions available that can take you to the interior of Mexico to explore Mayan ruins, ancient forts and villages, or storybook lagoons and beaches for aquatic recreation.”

Roatán, Honduras Jan 13

“Roatán is the largest of the Bay Islands, located approximately thirty-five miles north of Honduras. It has become one of the premier diving destinations in all the world. Numerous wrecks, a fringing coral reef and bountiful marine life are the primary attractions. That's not to say things are not fantastic on shore. Roatán is also blessed with some of the most beautiful beaches in all of creation.”
